Obakeng Ramahali, better known as DJ Buckz, is a South African Disc jockey (DJ), singer, and music producer whose voice and creativity have helped shape the sound of modern Amapiano and Afro-house. Born and raised in Soshanguve, near Pretoria, he grew up surrounded by a strong musical culture that fueled his ambition to pursue a career in entertainment.
In 2014, Buckz gained recognition through his appearance on “Y-Tjukutja” with Uhuru. His instantly recognizable ad-libs and energetic vocal delivery made the track a national anthem and introduced him to audiences across the continent. Due to his work with Uhuru, people thought he was in the group; however, Buckz was focused on his solo career.
As both a vocalist and producer, DJ Buckz has collaborated with leading figures in South African music, including DJ Maphorisa, Kabza De Small, Heavy-K, and Afrotraction. His strength lies in his ability to blend rich melodies with infectious rhythms, producing songs that are equally suited for radio play and the dance floor.
Buckz is known for combining DJing and live vocals for a dynamic performance. His versatility allows him to shift between soulful, laid-back sounds and the high-energy beats that define Amapiano’s global appeal. Over time, DJ Buckz has earned a reputation as more than just a featured voice; he is a multi-dimensional artist who continues to evolve with the industry. As Amapiano spreads internationally, his contributions remain vital to the genre’s growth, positioning him as one of the artists carrying South Africa’s contemporary sound onto the world stage
